The Constitution and Regulations are the backbone of the Students’ Union, in essence a rule book and guidelines as to how the day to day running of the Union is undertaken.
The Constitution sets out the beliefs of the Union and forms what you might call a “mission statement”, whilst giving us a basic structure for the Union. Following that, the seven parts named Regulations A to G flesh out this structure by outlining everything from the Finances of the Union to how a Disciplinary Hearing is given.

The constitution proper is only around 11 pages long. This deals with most of the Students Unions Main activities and how it interacts with external bodies such as the college.
Ammendments to the Constitution proper requires the motion to be passed by a 50% majority at General Meeting, it must then be passed by College Council and passed again by 50% majority at Union Council. For more information see 'Creation of Policy' on the General Meeting homepage.

Policy is about how the Union operates in particular situations (eg: Executive blogs and surgeries), or what stance it will take over a certain subject (such as the environment or top-up fees). Rather than having to add these into the Constitution, there is a collection of policies that govern the day-to-day running, and strategic goals of the Union, and these can be found in the Policy File.
