Hello All,
Quick update on my goings on. Haven't been doing many duties during Reading week as the degree is becoming alittle serious. But Go Green Week I feel was really successful. Thanks everyone that helped out..you were awesome. I was especially impressed with Daniel Cooper's climate Change debate..the turn out was much much better than expected.
In terms of where to go now..Starting to concentrate on Fair Trade Fortnight. David, Ellie and I have already had a meeting with the people from the college shop on how to promote fair trade products...there is already a large poster outside the shop..so things are already happening. I also need to start concentrating on what to do for Culture week!
Until next time

So..definitely have not written on here for a while. I do apologise.
Over the past week I have been concentrating mostly on Go Green Week which is the second week in February. David and I kick started the week by having a meeting with Anna Simpson (the college's Sustainability Officer) and Eleanor Hooper the president of People and Planet. We discussed exactly what is going to happen throughout the week..and if all goes to plan..there will be A LOT happening. What needs to happen now is for us to work out everything that needs to be organised. I will be doing this in the next E and E meeting which is tomorrow.
David and I have also been brainstorming ideas about a video we will be making for the Ecologist's competition. It needs to be an innovative idea that expresses all the things that Royal Holloway has done over the year to make our uni greener. The play should be all day filming on Friday.
A campaign that I definitely want to get started for this term is a tap water campaign. Many students don't choose/know that all tap water here is safe to drink..it's much cheaper and much more environmentally friendly, Many students have approached me to point out that there is no easy access to water either. I would like to get feed back form students on whether they would think it a good idea to install a water fountain..maybe outside the union. And whther they would use it...and take it from there.
Anyway..until next time..which hopefully won't be 2 months away this time
peace xx
My main focuses in the past 2 weeks have been Sound Impact, the 10/10 campaign and Sound Impact. Im currently working with David in the following weeks to meet the Sound Impact deadline which is the 16th December. We've booked out full days to work on the booklet. Members of my sub committee have also said they would help if needs be.
I've also brainstormed about Go Green Week which is in February and making sure that this year we will work closely with People and PLanet..as it is one of their campaigns. So hopefully organisation for that week will be under way pretty soon.
I had a meeting with Shivani about the 10/10 launch getting ideas about what will happen at the launch and discussing ideas about what to do on campus, flyers etc. We will hopefully have a group of volunteers at the end of the week to help us out.
Spoke more with Anna Simpson about carrying on with the water campaign - to encourage Students to drink tap water as an alternative to bottled water.
I also helped selling poppies around Englefield Green on Monday and attended the Entertainment Sub Committee.
Peace xxxx
HEllooo. So since last exec I've had the sub committee elections on Thursday. Managed to fill the positions for my Sub committee. I've set up a Facebook group for us so we can communicate easily.
Tomorrow Ive got to write an article about and interview Bill Ruddiman. A gentleman who is doing a lecture at Royal Holloway on Tuesday; about his views on Climate Change- something he calls 'The Ruddiman Hypothesis'. Ive researched him and his works and his view is that the impact of farming on greenhouse-gas levels, thousands of years before the industrial revolution, kept our planet notably warmer than if natural climate cycles had prevailed--quite possibly forestalling a new ice age- so quite a radical view!
Today I attended Jess' Entertainment sub committee meeting. And have planned for my first meeting which is tomorrow
!23 October 2009Hellloo again. Long over due update.
Since I last wrote Ive attended 3 people and planet meeting which was really helpful. We spoke in detail about the 5h of Dece December Climate March - how we are going to get as many people to go from Royal Holloway and also how we're going to get there. MAny of them wanted to join my sub committee as well which if friggin' awesome.
I organised a meeting with Anna Simpson and my subcommitee which is on Tuesday. This was sparked by Ed Resek's (on of my sub commitee) feedback about recycling in halls. It's in a pretty dire state. The cleaners are basically not recycling what is left in the bags. He's got a lot of feedback from students which will be brought to Anna's attention on Wednesday.
I had my one to one with David and realised I really need to start with the Sound Impact scheme.
I also had a chat with Shivani of maybe setting up a campaign to get more water fountains available on campus- something which I think is definitely needed!
