This week for exec we had to write a poem saying what we had done- so here is mine below, hopefully a bit more exciting than the ordinary blog!

After exec last week I went to the GM
First thing next morning had a 1-2-1 with Ben
Sorting out the constitution and all things RAG
Next a chat with Gilli about hassles a student had
Sat next to a radiator in faculty board
Got told off for opening a window, despite it being hotter than abroad
I had a meeting called ISAG with Geoff Ward and the Crew,
They had a fight, I helped John, he said Thank you
Went to David’s for a photo to say what we’ve done
Then two disciplinaries- not so much fun
1-2-1 with Isabella and also Hardeep,
Emailed with Sarah for slang words we can keep
Went to exec question time with all of the gang
Not many turned up so just chatted and hang
Took the sabb-elects out for a meal
Next week a sabb meeting- I wasn’t tranquil
Then we had Holi, really good fun
Numerous showers after until cleansing was done
Next a posh thing in Founders, which was a little bit shit
Me and James got bored so we went to get fish and chips
This morning hung-over in BEMG
The irony was definitely not lost on me
Today community police had a drop in
Had a photo at the library with a big grin
Now I’m in exec, in this is my week
So I shall hand over for the next person to speak!

Hello!

So it is blogging time again, I know realise I do enjoy a good ole blog on a Monday, its kind of like therapy- but without the excessive use of tissues.

So what has been going on in the life of VPEdWelfare I hear you ask….

- I had the fun of executive committee refresher training- a joyous event where we welcomed our new union chair and shared lots of fun ideas- cute.
- I have met with the deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and an amazing woman from academic development over Post Grad research formal warning issues and general welfarey things which often arise as a result of these things.
- I met with the ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL Amy from RAG to talk about RAG week- it is gong to be amazing- I am sooo excited.
- I had a staff meeting (no where near as exciting as RAG)
- I met some important people at college about the new format to the welfare forum- which is going to make it waaayyy more accessible to you guys- aka, the students!
- I met with our good ole human resources lady Clare (what a dream)
- I had a SABB meeting in James office
- I did a disciplinary
- I have chatted to lots of budding new VPedwelfares
- I have also worked my little socks of with Hardeep (our academic affairs officer) on lots of cool issues- we have had the most amazing success ever with the Deans, which we will tell you about soon, have been going NSS crazy and have done a few other crazy educational stuff.

11th January 2010

Well hello again, I hope you all had a lovely break and have enjoyed playing in the snow as much as I have.

I haven’t been up to that much as I took annual leave last week, but I will let you know what I did in the last week of job, what I have been upto today, and whats coming up in the very near future.

Right so in the last week Vpedwelfare of 2009 I….
-         went to an awful lot of Christmas related college functions
-         chased up academic departments over course reps
-         actually managed to get the majority of names of course reps off departments
-         did some Macmillan preparation work with Emily Cookson regarding our all new cancer support group
-         Lots of work with out Academic Affairs officer on our wish list of academic needs
-         Missed the fact that there were no students
-         Had a senior management team meeting
-         Did some sort of incident management training where I got to ring president pidge in a pretend panic.
-         Went to an academic consultation group
-         It snowed
-         Had a SUEI pre- audit
-         Lots of SUEI bits and bobs
-         Had a meeting with the frankly amazing Maire Davies (Director of Special Projects
-         Had to move out of my office as it is getting decorated- woop woop!

Now today I have been going through a frankly amazing amount of emails, there have been a lot of issues with burst pipes because of the cold weather- if this is you, make sure you pop on down to the SU to see how we can help you out, I also went to a meeting about an IT forum, which you will hear more about soon, a few bits of casework, work on the academic wish list, I have a meeting with Hardeep in a couple of minutes and then we are off to meet the Deans and Maire. I am also still office less so am currently working in the Bars and Ents office which is fun!

There are lots of things to look out for this term. We have RAG week coming up and the end of the month, with loads of cool activities, entertainment and fun all in aid of charity.

We also have the launch of the NSS, which stands for National Student Survey. All finalists can fill this out so watch out for some prizes and a Windsor building takeover.

Hardeep and I will be going all out with our ‘Help us learn’ Campaign

The SU are hosting the Big student debate, I am sitting on the panel along with some of colleges finest so make sure you come along to ensure you are getting the most out of your student experience- also watch out for us running around campus with cameras to see what you want from your time here at RHUL, what makes it special and what could do with some more improvement.

I think that’s it for now. No doubt I will be blogging again soon. Don’t forget any worries, concerns or just in need of a chat pop in to the advice and support centre on the first floor of the SU (plus its going to be all shiny and painted).

What a busy couple of weeks it has been! I must say a special tank you to the LGBT committee who have been amazing- without them SHAG week would have been nothing, their ability to keep me laughing at times of intense stress, help create an amazing looking hall, help Chlamydia testers, pass a minibus test less that one hour before needed, have some fab ideas, and generally keep me from having a mental melt down at any moment.

I have had an amazing, if not extremely stressful, first term of being a SABB here at SURHUL, theres lots of exciting (well kind of- come on I am a welfare/ education SABB) things coming in January, so keep your eyes and ears peeled, on second thoughts I don’t know if peeling ears is possible.

January will see RAG week- so gets those coins out, a student experience extravaganza (so people at college know what you think), and the launch of the National Student Survey….. and I am sure much much more.

Despite welfare being slightly relocated, please still do ask for ether myself or Tina over the xmas break (when we are open) and one of us will definitely be able to help.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year xxx

Hello,

I am attempting to blog- whether this website works or not is neither a science nor faith, so if this works or not, I do not know. All I do know is if it deletes it/ erases me from the planet/ sucks me in to the computer I will be slightly upset.

Wow my first blog as Vpedwelfare. How time flies. So much has been happening. I did my handover month with Adam in July, he taught me all that he knew! Then came the 1st of August and the scary (and slightly hung-over) revelation that I was all alone. And then it all kicked off. I did so much over the summer, lots of academic appeals, tons of meetings at college, completely re-branded the Advice centre (now the advice and support centre- just asc)! We also did tons of Freshers week prep, I went on training (ULU, NUS, OIA, Beat Bullying and so much more).

Then since term has started I have done:
-         so much casework
-         so many disciplinaries
-         tons of presentations
-         countless meetings at college
-         exec meetings
-         one to ones with my amazing SABB family
-         Academic Board
-         RAG elections
-         Lunch with VP’s
-         Bedford library project board
-         Meeting with the ‘Chlamydia people’
-         Student experience working group
-         Meeting with Macmillan cancer relief about an exciting new project
-         And so so so much more I can’t possibly remember/ bore you with right now.

A few things I want to communicate with all you guys…
- RAG day (30th October)
- Give Blood (Su Main Hall- 28th Oct)
- Beat Bullying- an amazing NEW online volunteering opportunity, email me on vpedwelfare@su.rhul.ac.uk for more details.
